Performance

  • Hot melt adhesives with high heat resistance according to WPS 68 tests, and which exceed the UK FIRA Gold Award standard. Depending upon the substrates being used, continuous bonding up to 100°C can be achieved.
  • High bond strengths ensuring substrate failure.
  • Versatility in bonding a vast range of surfaces under varying operating conditions.
  • Product available in a variety of colours.
  • Filled and unfilled adhesives.
  • Operator friendly machine characteristics – no dusting, stringing or smearing.
  • Speciality grades for high or low temperature performance and difficult substrate bonding.
  • Fast melt down for high speed operations.
  • Free flowing prills - that do not dust - available in bulk.
  • Continually improving standards of heat and humidity resistance.
  • Properties to eliminate stringing and smearing.
  • Polyolefin hot melts with high adhesion or heat resistance (up to 140°C)

Filled and unfilled hot melt adhesives

Beardow Adams has developed a series of unfilled hot melts for profile wrapping and other applications which offer the following benefits over traditional filled hot melts:

  • Major economic benefits (see below).
  • Improved adhesion giving better resistance to heat and stress.
  • Ability to bond a wide variety of substrates, including PVC, HPL, melamine impregnated paper and various wood veneers.
  • Without any filler to act as an abrasive, there is a reduced level of wear and tear on the application roller.
  • Low odour/fume characteristics and cleaner running - leading to improved production efficiency.
  • Production stoppages reduced due to lower maintenance and less frequent cleaning of glue pots.
  • No insulation effect of filler settling out on the base of the glue pot.

In addition, unfilled hot melts have an economy benefit.  An unfilled hot melt has a specific gravity (SG) of 0.95 g/m² compared to a typical filled hot melt with 40 per cent filler and an SG of 1.53 g/m².  With an unfilled hot melt, over 60 per cent less adhesive by weight may be needed to bond the same area as a hot melt with a high filler content. Due to improved bond performance, it may also be possible to reduce the quantity of adhesive used as well as the weight.
